WARNING: Do not eat certain chocolate-covered vanilla bars, orange cream ice cream bars, and raspberry cream bars sold under numerous brands at various stores across the country—Giant, Safeway, Kroger, Aldi, Winn Dixie, and others. These products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a germ causing a serious, sometimes fatal illness in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with chronic health conditions (weakened immune systems). Although healthy individuals who become infected might suffer only short-term symptoms such as fever, headaches, and diarrhea, the germ can cause pregnant women to lose their babies.
